Junior Year Recap

This has definitely been a pretty quick month!! May has been one full of end of the year celebrations and lots and lots and lots and lots of studying. I don't remember the last time my finals have been this stressful. But that's what I get for taking seven classes. :)

So here are a list of things that have been going on in life over the past few weeks....
As well as many wonderful moments that just about sum up my life this Junior Year...

  1. My last blog post was about my trip to Duluth. It ended up being a really awesome trip with a great friend! We saw Lake Superior! (My first time seeing it) We also shopped around, climbed to some touristy places, and spent our evenings playing cribbage. It was such a great experience and I'm glad that I got to experience it with a wonderful friend.
Lake Superior! It was so incredibly cold there. The ice was still on the Lake.

So grateful for this girl's friendship.

The Beautiful light house on the harbor

     Looking out over Lake Superior

This is all of the snow on top of the Lake. About twenty feet of snow piled up...

So there was, unfortunately, no swimming in Lake Superior for us.
    2. On May 3, I ran my first Half Marathon!!! (The Prairie Du Chien Half) This was an awesome experience and I would do it again in a heart beat. I was able to run the entire 13.1 miles without stopping, accomplishing my own personal goal, and achieving my New Year's Resolution!! I ran it with some awesome friends. Even some of our friends surprised us at the finish line in Prairie Du Chien, WI and cheered us on!! It was a truly thrilling experience and I am so excited about this accomplishment.
The weather was perfect, and I was grateful for some awesome people to run with. My official time was 2 hours 6 minutes!

    3. Books. Over the past few weeks, I have read a lot of books for my Young Adult Literature Class. They have consisted of, The Truth About Forever, Because of Winn-Dixie, The Fault in Our Stars, and Love Wins. I am currently reading, Love Wins, and I love it. It is an interesting theological book by Rob Bell. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. It is a good "thinking" book. The Fault in Our Stars is an incredibly powerful book that is raw and moving. Be warned, you will cry at the end. But it is beautiful.

    4. Amidst the loads of reading that I have had to do (which I've loved), I've also seen some pretty funny videos. So here's a list of links that will make you laugh. (Hopefully) I don't watch too much TV, but I have seen some things recently that have made me smile. :-)
    • This Episode of The Big Bang Theory
      • I love this show. This episode is incredibly wonderful. Especially if you're as big a fan as I am and have been watching from the very beginning (all 7 seasons). Can't wait for the Season Finale tonight!!!
    • This video of Impossible Jokers here.
      • I had never seen this show until recently, and when someone showed it to me, I was on the floor laughing. So funny.
    •  And finally this video.
      • This is of a bride getting married, and her father daughter dance. Her father died before the wedding, so her brother did something incredibly special. I bawled my eyes out while watching this. It was incredibly touching. Definitely have the entire spectrum of human emotion in this.

    5. This semester has been filled with a wide variety of classes, many of them education classes. As a result, I have spent a great deal of time with all of my fellow el ed majors. We've bonded, ranted, and done what feels like a thousand group projects, and of course shared many laughs. I am so grateful for my ed family. It has been a joy spending so much time with this group. From Methods to Instructional Strategies, it has been quite the joyful ride. :-) So here are some snapshots of our ed adventures...
During our science methods class we climbed in to a large plastic bag to recreate parts of a cell. What can I say? I have a pretty awesome class. This is what we do on the daily. :-)

We went on a field trip to the Norman Borlaug House/Museum and taught in groups of four, 8 different lessons to sixth graders the whole day. It was awesome!!

This is the building that we have pretty much resided in for all of our classes. It is Koren, our beloved home. :-)
Hard to believe this year is coming to a close.

    6. Future Plans: I am excited to announce that I will be student teaching at Lenski Elementary in a fifth grade classroom this fall, as well as in St. Vrain School District at Black Rock Elementary in Boulder, CO!!! I am thrilled and so grateful for these opportunities. Can't wait for the Fall!! I will miss Luther, but I know these few months will fly by.

    7. Adventure Time: Amidst all of the studying, group meetings, and late nights of doing homework, my running buddy, Halle, and I journeyed and hiked to Malanaphy Springs. This is a gorgeous waterfall that is in Decorah. It was absolutely beautiful!!!

    8.  Ylvi Staff. This group of people have been my family this year, and I am so grateful for all of the laughs we've shared! They have been my saving grace for much of the year. I will definitely miss not seeing them next year. Together, we have all made many great memories!

     Blessed by my awesome Co!

Truly, so blessed by these two. It has been a joy being an AHD on staff with my Co-AHD, Sarah, and our HD, Sarah. Will really be missing them next year.

Each one of these people have made a huge difference in the lives of Ylvi residents this year. They each have put forth so much time and effort and have shown leadership on campus. It has been nothing short of a blessing to work with them!
